Spot the illegal non-compete!

After wrapping up Women's History Month and putting up my monthly reminder for my pro bono services, I started a new video series this week on how to spot illegal non-competition provisions hiding in your employment contract. Ontario banned non-competes in employment agreements back in 2021 because they're a restraint on trade. The only exceptions are for C-suite execs and non-competes agreed to as part of a sales transaction.
The topics covered this week are:
accepting business from clients of your former employer;
soliciting past and prospective clients of your former employer; and
soliciting suppliers of your former employer.
You can find more details on each of these points in the descriptions attached to these videos.
Next week, I'll be continuing this discussion on spotting illegal non-competes for jurisdictions that have not banned them in legislation (which is every province except Ontario).
