One of my LinkedIn posts on applying a feminist lens to parental leave policies.

In honour of Women's History Month, I'm doing a daily series of posts on LinkedIn that applies a feminist lens to employment law tips for employers. Each week, I'm picking a different theme, and this past week was about parental leave policies.

The topics covered included:

  1. the legal risks of applying a blanket EI parental leave benefits top-up scheme to all employees;

  2. the benefits of creating a self-funded paternity leave;

  3. the legal risks of requiring co-parent employees to share EI top-up benefits; and

  4. the legal obligation to keep in touch with employees who are off on pregnancy or parental leave.
