Can you catch any of these probation mistakes in your contract?

The theme for this week's videos was all about probation. In these short video clips, I went over:

  1. your probation clause doesn't apply if your job offer is pulled before your first day of work;

  2. probation can generally be of any length, but that doesn't mean you can be let go without notice or compensation;

  3. your probation clause needs to correctly acknowledge the threshold at which you're entitled to notice or compensation; and

  4. if your contract gets any of these things wrong, you'll be entitled to "common law reasonable notice", which works out to anywhere between a few weeks to a few months' pay.

You can find more details on each of these points in the descriptions attached to these videos.

Next week I'll be covering some easy ways to squeeze a little more value out of your employment contract.
