In honour of Women's History Month, my video series is focusing on a different women's issue in the workplace for each week of March. For the last week of the month, I focused on the gender wage gap. The subjects covered included:
equal pay for equal work under employment standards legislation;
equal pay for work of equal value under pay equity legislation;
wage discrimination under human rights legislation;
the concept of "greedy work" from Nobel prize-winning economic historian, Dr. Claudia Goldin's research (which explains 70% of the gender wage gap); and
five solutions to the gender wage gap caused by "greedy work".
You can find more details on each of these points in the descriptions attached to these videos.
On LinkedIn, I worked on a parallel series this week that took a deeper dive into Dr. Goldin's research. I also expanded on the discussion around solutions by pointing out the need to normalize dads helping out with the unpaid labour at home and a flexible work solution coming out of Finland.
