Social responsibility is very important to me. My goal for Clausework is to obtain B Corp certification after one year of operation, which is the minimum eligibility threshold. Companies need to score a minimum of 80 points on the B Impact Assessment to be certified, which means I need to take a few more steps over the next few month to qualify. I'm sharing my progress through those steps to keep myself accountable.
Today, I'm sharing the points tentatively earned in the "Designed to Give - Impact Business Model" section of the "Community" Impact Area in the B Impact Assessment. Companies can earn up to 18.95 points depending on their charitable giving structure, and Clausework has tentatively scored full points for this one:
We are formally committed to donate the equivalent of 5% or more of our time through pro-bono services.
Every month, I donate at least 10 hours of my time to the following causes:
free employment contract review for up to 5 clients who are offered less than a living wage; and
employment law information sessions at the Mennonite New Life Centre of Toronto, a local immigrant and refugee settlement charity.
(I've also entered into a volunteering agreement with the Elizabeth Fry Society - Toronto Branch to provide employment law information sessions and summary advice to their clients, tentatively scheduled to start in the new year. I haven't included this in the points calculation.)
Ten hours a month works out to about 5.8% of my working time, assuming a 40-hour work week and 4.3 weeks per month. So, I'm optimistic that B Lab will award full points after checking the receipts.
18.95 points down, another 61.05 to go!
